This interstate was cold
Last time I was here.
But back in the heat,
I’m still looking up at skyscrapers
And spray-painted brick.
I don’t know what I expected
Coming back here.
But I know who I am now,
At least,
Instead of just wondering.
I was clinging
Last time I was here,
Holding tightly to the hope
He wouldn’t let go.
I’m held on to now.
I can rest between these skyscrapers
And paper planes
Because I won’t have to wonder
Anymore;
His devotion never changed.
The interstate is hot,
Carving through the city,
And I’m hoping I’ll be back
When it’s cold,
Because
Now, I won’t believe the lies like the last time I was here.
And
Instead,
I’m
His
Now.
