Feeling overstretched–
spread too thin, if you will.
Craving stillness, yet
stillness never quite fits the bill.
The gear I’m in is detrimental.
The gears are grinding
to a halt,
all my fault,
wasting my potential.
I think I pulled a muscle
running, trying to keep up, stay hustling–
screaming with the windows up,
pouring out of an empty cup.
The teacher hesitates, takes a sigh,
and I know exactly why.
It’s why I say “present”
when my mind is absent.
The pressure to show up perfect,
something that you project,
and also regret but try to forget.
Finding it impossible to
let it be.
To be me.
Me.
You.
Us.
In all our imperfect harmony.
Kailani is an amateur writer. She writes for the love of writing. It is her sincerest form of expression—a way to put her wide-ranging ideas and life experiences into something cohesive. As a clinical therapist, she helps others find, listen to, and use their voice. And her writing is her voice. The world as she experiences it is her inspiration, and her love of personal flair fuels her style. She doesn’t think she’s to write the next great American novel, but she’s to write something. Stay curious.
