I am walking on a trail
deep into the neck of the woods
with no map
and no compass
and at the end
is the trailhead
which lies my final destination
and in between the beginning and the end are memories
of the people I’ve loved
the friends I’ve kept
the family I’ve held
and the choices I’ve made
and as I walk this trail
there are divergences
multiple forks in the road
some are steady
some are smooth
containing flat earth
they are secure and known to man others
have obstacles
such as fallen tree branches and uphill climbs though they may be scenic
the path is unmarked
requiring leaps of faith
and within each route
are people I have yet to meet
and choices I have yet to make
and I am so unsure
if one will steer me off course
and lead me astray
I am so unsure
which is most practical
and holds my dreams
I am so unsure
which is most tranquil
and will keep my mind at ease
I am
so
unsure
but
what if
all roads lead me to the same place
the trailhead
what if
with no map
and no compass
I continue my journey
deep into the neck of the woods
what if
it is only trust
that guides me
my human intuition
the telling in my gut
that shows me the way
