a 2 by 4 approach
may not be pretty or nice
but when it comes to loving
any help comes at a price
sacrifice the comfort of stagnation
the vindication of being right
admit your wrongs and listen
when another shows you the light
accept what has passed
be present for what is
hold out hope for what may be
speak to the inner kids
speak with kindness
use small words
maintain eye contact
let each other be heard
it’s scary and nerve wracking
to let another in and see
the beautiful mess that exists within
but in that mess
you both are set free
Kailani Norwell is an amateur writer. She writes for the love of writing. It is her sincerest form of expression—a way to put her wide-ranging ideas and life experiences into something cohesive. As a clinical therapist, she helps others find, listen to, and use their voice. And her writing is her voice. The world as she experiences it is her inspiration, and her love of personal flair fuels her style. She doesn’t think she’s to write the next great American novel, but she’s to write something. Stay curious.
