The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

March 4, 2024

the revolution will not be televised.

you will not see the millions in the streets

on the broadcast stream,

or the grass and the rose,

nor the blood from which it grows—

the revolution will not be televised.

no, you won’t see the fight for freedom when the oppressed push back.

the white folk will say, “it’s something they lack.

people like them don’t think like we can.

besides, it’s not murder if it’s uncivilized man.”

the revolution will not be televised.

the revolution will not be brought to you by the golden globes,

nor through taylor swift’s instagram posts, but it will be in art and carried long in the heart.

the revolution doesn’t fade despite the censorship game because

the revolution will not be televised.

it won’t be in song nor in stars on your screen,

but the revolution will change hearts, and make them turn clean.

the revolution will not be televised,

but i’ll tell you what will be:

the destroyers of lands, from the river to the sea.

they’ll come up on your screen

and cry “save me,”

while children’s blood from their hands they wash clean.

the revolution will not be televised,

the revolution will not be televised,

the revolution will not be televised.
