Naïveté

November 6, 2024

The second day I wore my white shoes I stepped in blood

from the head wound of an old lady being wheeled into A&E

and I should have known there and then that you were as red of a flag

as the blood on my shoes but I let you send me writing and I read it

like poetry, carefully, and tried so hard to blame the violence

on anything, everything but my naïveté.
