“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”
—Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
i soar into the sky
and dive into the clouded past.
i see her below—
lying alone,
streaks of salt
on freckled cheeks.
i see her below—
winding alone,
pruning prudence
from her repertoire.
i see her.
remind her who she is
when love runs thin,
when patience frays.
nudge her to unearth
the depth that waits within.
protect her heart
when she meets him.
convince her:
love is not a whim—
it’s a choice.
she has a voice.
it’s her alchemy:
to turn the intangible into
picturesque, visceral
depictions—
eloquent, poetic metaphors.
to turn broad-stroke rants into
nuanced syntax
shaded with structure.
she wasn’t made to be
digestible,
palatable,
profitable—
she’s magical.
Kailani is an amateur writer. She writes for the love of writing. It is her sincerest form of expression—a way to put her wide-ranging ideas and life experiences into something cohesive. As a clinical therapist, she helps others find, listen to, and use their voice. And her writing is her voice. The world as she experiences it is her inspiration, and her love of personal flair fuels her style. She doesn’t think she’s to write the next great American novel, but she’s to write something. Stay curious.
