An Ode from Melon to Collie

August 8, 2025

Poets have their rhymes

Musicians make melodies chime

And dancers have the world at their feet

You were supposed to have time

To pen these worlds from your mind

To give this story a proper happy ending

And I don’t understand

How someone could live on through their words

In fact, I don’t believe it at all

Your words don’t have your laugh

Or your smile—it just hurts

To read these words and remember you’re gone

I really wish I could

Finish the story you should have had time to write

But writers have their words, and I have none

All I love is lost

You were the very last one

And now I truly, really am

An orphan.
