I am drowning in a pool staring back at me
I bought into the fairy tale and what a sham(e)
When reality is so much sweeter
Playing it cool has yet to really work for me
And it continues to work less and less
And no matter what I try, I am hated for my efforts
So please just don’t know me
Don’t call me Lizzo
I’m begging, I can’t stand the false intimacy anymore
The urge to forget everyone I’ve ever known
For the embarrassment of being is too strong
And I know it doesn’t sound like a triumph
But I had the foolishness to neglect the dream
I knew so well in childhood
To keep your friends close and your colleagues in their place
When work is life and living is hard work
