it’s bittersweet to remember us now.

my mouth upturns in a melancholic smile.

every once in awhile,

my eyes roll and reminisce how

we laughed,

we cried,

we screamed.

we talked about taking on the world—

you and me.

and wasn’t that the teenage dream?

give every single moment and person access.

act like we couldn’t care less.

drive each other wild and reckless.

drink in our youth to excess.

i wish there was a way

i could tell us we’ll survive,

make it out alive—

separately—

but we’ll thrive.

i believed in opposites attract.

opposing magnets attract,

collide, then refract.

the force was strong,

but not a pull.

the door said push,

and we rushed in with the fools.

Kailani is an amateur writer. She writes for the love of writing. It is her sincerest form of expression—a way to put her wide-ranging ideas and life experiences into something cohesive. As a clinical therapist, she helps others find, listen to, and use their voice. And her writing is her voice. The world as she experiences it is her inspiration, and her love of personal flair fuels her style. She doesn’t think she’s to write the next great American novel, but she’s to write something. Stay curious.
