in a corner with all eyes on me–
eyeing with a valid inquiry
about the delay in what came to be.
the wind knocked my sails,
the butterfly’s wet wings flailed,
the sun-kissed cheeks paled.
you intercepted the focus
shifted, deflected, projected,
protected me from the line of fire.
water washing away tensions,
streams of consciousness
forming context for speculations.
at the time we met,
i didn’t lie. i knew
there was something
new. it was you.
still seeing a man of the past
finding solace in suspicion,
forcing the future of a foundation
not meant to last.
grappling with contempt
i grew to resent
the woman i came to be,
the way i feared
the way he loved me.
he waited for me.

Kailani is an amateur writer. She writes for the love of writing. It is her sincerest form of expression—a way to put her wide-ranging ideas and life experiences into something cohesive. As a clinical therapist, she helps others find, listen to, and use their voice. And her writing is her voice. The world as she experiences it is her inspiration, and her love of personal flair fuels her style. She doesn’t think she’s to write the next great American novel, but she’s to write something. Stay curious.
