Your eyes are waterfalls,
Cascading
into my soul’s
Deep and yawning mouth.
Coming when uninvited,
Asking when unprovoked.
You know as well as I do
That “no” does not exist
When you are around.
As a child, I learned about
The cosmos. Now I’ve discovered:
You are at its center.
It’s only natural for the
Mountains to yield and the valleys
To sway at the sound of your voice.
Only now am I realizing that the
Earth doesn’t turn unless you permit it,
And buildings don’t fall until you say the word.
Say the word.
We’re all waiting.
Vanessa Perez has loved writing ever since she was a little girl. Words have always fascinated her, and now she studies English at California State University, Fullerton.
